Engaged couple Heather Robinson and David Blevins felt something was missing
in their work-life balance. Wanting to create more flexibility in their
finances and lifestyle, they also really wanted something they could do
together. Established in their own successful careers in Florida’s
Palm Beach area, franchising,
specifically a semi-absentee business model, seemed just the way to build a business together while still maintaining
their other commitments.
As a starting point, they searched
Entrepreneur's Franchise 500 ranking of top systems and eliminated quick-service
restaurants. Blevins says, “We saw too much overhead and paper costs,
and neither of us had any food industry experience. It wasn’t for
Top 500 list for more than two decades running, claiming one of the prestigious
Top 10 spots the last two years, Sport Clips Haircuts caught their attention. “Sport Clips just
made sense to us. The model plays to our strengths and experience,”
With 18 years in the hospitality industry, Blevins has experience in recruiting,
hiring, training and guest services. Robinson, with ownership stake in
multiple franchised fitness centers, has accounting and back office support
Pairing Blevins’ management and people skills with Robinson’s
analytical and accounting skills, their complementary skill sets are a
good match for Sport Clips’ manager-led business model. Robinson
says, “The brand is a good fit for us in many ways. The core values
also resonated with us and very much aligned with ours.”
Blevins says, “We love the 'people first' mentality of Sport
Clips. I have always approached my management and leadership roles with
a servant’s attitude.”
The couple found the discovery process to be informative and well organized. “There were no high-pressure sales tactics. We were able to take
our time and figure out if this was the right fit for us,” Blevins says.
Robinson adds, “It is clear the brand is invested in your success and will work with you
throughout the entire process. We are going into business for ourselves, but definitely not by ourselves.
That was reassuring.”
This May, Blevins and Robinson made the decision to become team leaders
(franchisees), and are touring potential sites for their first location.
Blevins says, “We are excited to get started. We look forward to
making our stores a fun place to work, a place that grows team members
personally and professionally.”
By choosing to invest in Sport Clips, the couple has begun their journey toward
achieving their personal and financial goals, and most importantly, they are doing it together.
